So you can sit at home in your yoga pants and watch the Oscars by yourself or you can glam up and throw the most dazzling party of the year. I love throwing parties and the Oscars are no exception. Throwing an Oscar viewing party is a lot easier than you think. Here is a step by step guide to planning a glitzy party that your friends are sure to remember and enjoy. The Oscars are only a few days away, but if you are as cool as a cucumber, like me, then darlings there is plenty of time to throw a memorable affair. Just one tip, I am not going to lie, the key to a successful Oscars party is the Champagne. So just skip ahead to that section if you like. I won’t mind.
Invite Your Friends
Invite lots of your friends. Send them a glitzy Oscars invitation. Check out Punchbowl’s free glittery invites to impress your friends. Then have your guests dress up in their comfortable yet chic attire, or an even better idea would be to have everyone come dressed as their favorite movie star.
Set The Scene
Inaugurate your Academy night by rolling out the red carpet for your glamorous friends. The red carpet adds a special Hollywood flair to set the stage for a fun night. Red carpets are available through party rentals or even a local Party City. Then set up the viewing area. Bring out the gold and go bold. Glitter, gold, sparkles, and shine are perfectly fine for the Oscars. Set a red, black and gold theme. Decorate with candles, balloons, stars, and scents. Find old movie reels and small gold Oscar replica statues to help set the vibe. Lastly, create a playlist that has the Oscar-nominated songs, and then add other nostalgic Hollywood music mixed in with pop music. The goal is to set a fun festive upbeat mood with some background music, or for all you talented singers out there, Karaoke to your favorite Oscar-nominated songs.
Now to get to my most favorite part of planning, stock up on Champagne or make your own cocktails. The Academy has made it super easy and super exciting for me to pick my choice of Champagne. At the Oscars ceremony and the Governor’s Ball, the Academy’s official Oscar after-party, Piper Heidsieck is the exclusive champagne to be poured throughout the evening. So drink like the stars for the night and stock up on Piper-Heidsieck Champagne.
Piper-Heidsieck Limited Edition 92th Oscars Magnum Champagne – To honor the Oscars, Piper-Heidsieck has created a limited-edition magnum bottle to be poured exclusively at the ceremony and Governor’s Ball. A magical bottle was specially designed for this magical night. Piper-Heidsieck believes that nothing less than a magnum is worthy of the grandeur of the Oscars night. A bit of Hollywood trivia, a bottle of Piper-Heidsieck Champagne first appeared in the Laurel & Hardy movie, “The Sons of the Dessert” in 1933.
It’s been 100 years since the prohibition of alcohol in the United States. Piper-Heidsieck is paying tribute to the cinema in the roaring twenties with a limited edition magnum to be served at the Oscars this year. Featuring the House’s signature cuvée brut. What is super cool is that the label is the same replica used during the prohibition era. So get red carpet ready and drink like the stars. Be sure to stock up on Piper-Heidsieck Champagne for Hollywood’s biggest night.
Hollywood Inspired Cocktails – My top two choices for the Oscars cocktails come from Flicks & Food and are in honor of my two favorite movies this year, Joker and Ford vs Ferrari. Create two festive cocktails to offer your guests, my choice being the No Joke and Race Car. Click on the title and the link will take you directly to the recipe. Cheers!!
This is the easy part. There are a ton of free printables on-line to help bring a little healthy competitive fun. Make Oscar ballots, like this one from the New York Times to keep track of everyone’s votes, and then hand out an Oscar replica trophy or a prize for the winner. Play the red carpet game by picking best-dressed male, worst dressed male, best-dressed female, worst dressed female, and best-dressed couple. Dazzle and entertain your guests throughout the evening with bits of Hollywood trivia, click on the link for 200 trivia questions and answers.
An absolute must to begin any movie night is popcorn. Find some fun old-fashioned red and white popcorn boxes(available at Party City) to give your party a fun movie theater feel. Then offer up some options by presenting your guests with various toppings for their popcorn, like truffle butter, chili seasoning, or pesto and cheese. For the appys and entrees get creative with some classic recipes and give your dishes some personality by giving them movie-inspired names. Label the dishes with gold-edged placeholders as you serve them on the table.
One of the most memorable scenes in the Marriage Story was the serving of the divorce papers along with pecan pie. Be sure to serve your guests pecan pie along with ice cream or create an ice cream sundae bar. There were at least three scenes in The Irishman where Al Pacino is devouring copious amounts of ice cream sundae. Al Pacino says Ice Cream was his only vice, “He wasn’t a drinker, wasn’t a smoker. He liked his ice cream. Ice cream was a pause in his life where he could think and just sit with it — at least, that’s the way I thought of it.”
There you go!! The makings of a glamorous night of fashion and fun. See you on the Red Carpet.
