Trivento means “Three Winds”, a homage to the three winds that sweep through Mendoza, creating the ideal terroir to produce some of Argentina’s best Malbecs.  These winds add to the microclimates of the region making it an ideal place to produce world-class high-altitude wines at the foothills of the Andes Mountain.  Bodega Trivento is a leader in the Argentine wine scene producing some of the most elegant and intriguing Malbecs.

Owned by the Concho y Toro group from Chile, Trivento has prime vineyards in the Uco Valley, Maipu, Luján de Cuyo, San Martin, and Rivadavia districts of Mendoza.  Trivento wines are exceptional due to the high altitudes of the vineyards which provide a wide diurnal range in temperatures.

Sustainable Practices at Bodega Trivento

Bodega Trivento has prioritized environmental and social policies.  They recently received B Corp Certification – a designation that measures a company’s entire social and environmental impact against a rigorous set of standards and operates the largest photovoltaic plant in the Argentinian wine industry.  The winery makes conscious use of water,  preserves natural resources, makes efficient use of energy and reduces waste through recycling practices.

Chief Winemaker Germán di Cesare

The Malbecs of Argentina are evolving, they no longer are the heavy punchers at the table.  With a new generation of winemakers at the helm, Argentina’s wines are being picked earlier, so they are fresher and have less oak. Germán di Cesare’s wines represent this new style.  With over twenty harvests of winemaking, German makes wines with personalities that reflect the terroir, soils, and history of the region.

I recently met Germán di Cesare on his recent trip to NYC.  Germán’s presence is genuine and down to earth, but he is also quite the Renaissance man as he makes terrific wines, loves horseback, is quite a chef, and can whip up a great Argentinian BBQ.  With all that to his credit, he is also a talented singer and musician.

Tasting The Wines of Trivento

Trivento Golden Reserva Malbec 2020

The Golden Reserva is Trivento’s much-admired limited edition wine.  These wines are a passionate expression of the treasured Malbec vines in Luján de Cuyo.  Malbec thrives in this region, with vines resting at 3500 feet in altitude.  The Golden Reserva is a high-quality Malbec that translates the typicity of the place into the glass.  The wine is full of depth on the palate with notes of strawberries, blueberries and plums with soft supple tannins.

Trivento Eolo 2019

At the pinnacle of Trivento’s offerings is Eolo, a super-premium luxury Malbec. Germán personally handcrafts this wine to showcase the century-old vines of Luján de Cuyo. The name Eolo is a nod to a figure of Greek Mythology, Aeolus, thought to be the keeper of the winds.  The vines were planted on the northern bank of the Mendoza River in Luján de Cuyo in 1912, now over a century old.

Eolo is a complex wine with aromas of violet and cherries.  The palate is elegant and firm with bright fruit, distinct minerality and firm tannins.  Eolo is a dynamic Malbec made for the global stage.
