Excellence begins at the Source
Wines of Quality and Character. Commitment to Stewardship of the Environment.
Balverne is a beautiful and historical property in Sonoma which overlaps the Russian River and Chalk Hill AVAs. Balverne wines are from the Windsor Oaks Vineyards, which was part of the Racho Sotoyome land grant of 1841. The property has had vineyards planted since the 1920s. Today the property is owned by Bob and Renee Stein.
The Stein’s had the vision to create protected land on what is now Notre Vue Estate. They set aside 350 acres of protected land, Forever Wild open space. A sizable part of the open space was given over to Sonoma County Open Space District, which is now a natural green belt and riparian corridor where there is great biodiversity of flora and fauna. The property has majestic Red-Tailed Hawks that preside and protect the vineyards. The Stein’s pay tribute to the Red-Tailed Hawks with a special design on their wine label created by artist Bob Johnson.
The Stein’s farm 250 acres of Certified Sustainable vineyards that produce Balverne Wines. They also sell grapes to some of the most prestigious wine brands in Sonoma County. Their vineyards offer unique microclimates, rare soils, rolling hills and slopes; producing some of the highest quality fruit in the area. Balverne wines are 100% estate grown and produced in small lots.
